Carols with Sound & Light

St. Bart’s was bursting at the seams on Christmas Eve, when the largest congregation for 40 years packed the church for The carol Service with Sound and Light. Two vicars, a Dean and Ian Bishop, Archdeacon of Macclesfield, attended, with the last to turn up having to stand in any space they could find. Visitors came from all around including Belfast, Cardiff and the Home Counties.
Readings were read by villagers, carols sung by all, poems read by the Rev. Anne and the Gospel and Final Blessing were from Ian Bishop, who also thanked those who had put the service together. This year, music and lighting effects were supplemented with films and slides, some reducing the congregation to tears of emotion. Naomi Lakin lit the final Advent Candle to Carl Jenkins’ Wooing of Etain, a very poignant piece which she did expertly. The finale was slides of Jesus’ life from birth to the resurrection, showing photos of actors like Robert Powell and the art of masters like Salvador Dali and Raphael, accompanied by Josh Groban’s, You raise me up!
