A tremendous crowd tuned out to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday and were even joined by our local police for the service and lunch to follow. After hearing of the work our Queen has done on behalf of this country and reading a letter she had sent to us, we prayed for her and for her continued service. In true proms style, there was some rousing singing of ‘I Vow to thee my Country’, ‘Jerusalem’, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’, ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Happy Birthday’ and the ‘National Anthem’. Kerry Bannon, Chairperson of the Village Vision Group, which had secured a grant for our celebrations from Cheshire East Council, cut the special cake and proposed the ‘Loyal Toast’. Our Queen has met every US President throughout her reign and there was a photo quiz on who some of them were and in what order they came. Lunch was washed down with many bottles of bubbly and all thanked the team for a fantastic event.
There was also announced, the gift of a plaque from the Chief Rabbi in Jerusalem who wished us Health, Prosperity and Peace. Our magazine had been sent there and they were so impressed with the idea of Cafe Church and our ‘Shallom’ sign, they have now started their own. The plaque is now displayed next to the ‘Shallom’ sign at the back of church.
