Messy Church – Samuel – 28th July, 2019.
Today’s subject was the Old Testament prophet, Samuel. We watched a film about how he was given to the temple as a child, was called by God, listened to his word and became a great man. We had to search the church for clues to read who we should listen to and then we all talked about the people we listen to and what things we thought were important in our lives, like peace, love and friendship. Tim told us the story of the Man on his roof in a flood, who wouldn’t listen and we added Samuel to our Jesse Tree. Sam and Ellie told us about being on their school council, where they have to listen to their fellow pupils and then relay their suggestions to the teachers. We finished with ice creams, drinks and biscuits, before saying The Grace together..
During our Holy Communion service on Sunday July 21st we welcomed in to the family of God, Tahnee Shaw at her baptism. Tahnee’s proud parents, Stephanie and Todd, along with her Godparents, 50 or so guests and the regular congregation of St. Barts, pledged to support and guide Tahnee on her Christian journey through life. The service was conducted by the Rev. Anne.

For our June meeting of Messy Church, we completed our story of Jacob. We learned how he forgave his brothers for the wrongs they had done him and how they brought his father to Egypt and they all lived there together. Apart from the story, we had a treasure hunt in the church grounds to find all the letters that spelled out the word ‘Forgiveness’. We also made and decorated ‘heart’ jigsaws, which we compared to our own hearts that can be broken when we are not forgiven. We thanked God for his forgiveness when we said the Lord’s Prayer and we ended with The Grace. During our refreshments we said ‘Good Bye‘ to Jean, a long time member of Messy Church, who is moving to her family in Scotland. We will miss her but we wish her well and we also pray for Tim and Liz as the time for the birth of their new baby draws near.
Our thanks go to all those in the Church Minshull Sports & Social Group who held a fabulous race night to celebrate Ascot week in the village hall on Saturday, in aid of church funds. It was a fun filled evening, with a ‘tote’, lots of prizes, a well stocked bar and great buffet. They passed over a cheque for £1000, which will be spent on the church alterations starting this Summer. Well Done everyone!
Our topic for today was ‘relationships’ concentrating on our own with God. We discussed how we talk to him and Judy gave us her personal experiences of when she has talked to God and how he had answered her prayers. John and Jane performed a sketch, Celia read from St John’s gospel and Tim read the humorous ‘Parable of the Flood’. The children made family trees and joined in our prayers, so a good, sunny morning was had by all, especially one young lady in her ‘shades’.
Today we continued to learn about our subject of Joseph. After our short service we went to the back of church to make ‘dream catchers‘ and to hear about Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams. The catchers took a while to make, using special kits, but there were lots of different ones and we all took them home with us afterwards. To finish we sang Happy Birthday to Jessica, whose birthday is today, and then we all had a slice of birthday cake. It was very nice!
